Who's Reading Something Good?

Personally, I'm always reading something good!  In fact, I can't think of too many times where I have been reading something so not good that I decided to abandon the book and go in search of something else.  Each summer, I become a veritable reading machine, a monster with a voracious appetite for mystery, fantasy, and romance.  I thrive on traveling to time periods and lands other than my own, so I read lots of historical fiction.  I am rather persnickety about the historical fiction that I read, so I prefer for the historical elements to be grounded in accurate research.  This summer, I tackled World Without End, the sequel to Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.  While the pages number close to 1,000, Follett's medieval saga about the lives of the designers, carpenters, masons, and townspeople of the fictitious Kingsbridge, England, is so captivating that the pages are far less daunting than you might imagine.
Currently, I am embroiled in the murder of a genius, a maestro found poisoned in his dressing room during an intermission of the opera, La Traviata.  Murder at La Fenice is Donna Leon's first novel in her police commisario, Guido Brunetti series.  I have had the good fortune to travel to Venice, the setting of this mystery, and am enjoying the gondola rides, the winding streets and alleys that snake along the canal, and the mention of historical sites that I have seen.
If you want to see what else I read this summer, please feel free to become my friend on goodreads.com!

La Fenice is a beautiful theatre, rich in history. I would love to get the chance to see it one day. :)

I have just gotten finished reading Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Both were fantastic.

Currently, I've started in on Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, the sequal to Shiver, which is a somewhat angsty but entertaining werewolf romance about a girl named Grace and boy named Sam, who is about to lose his human side forever. Shiver was a great book, and Linger is promising to be just as good.

Eh hem...I am currently reading The Book Theif...and Neverwhere... I am so into The Book Theif...Neverwhere...not so much...I mean I have just started it but, it might get good. The Book Theif is about a girl named Liesel who lives in Nazi Germany, her mother is a Communist and was taken away, and later a Jewish man comes to live with them. It sounds super boring...but the syntax makes the story so delicious! I usually read Sarah Dessen or fantasy books, but this book has made me excited I expanded my genre.

I am reading One Day by David Nicholls. Dexter and Emma meet on the day of their college graduation. Each chapter finds the pair on the same date on year later. The book is about real life and what it means to grow up. I'm halfway through, but I know this is a book that will make me cry-the best kind.

I am so excited! I get to go to Europe this coming summer. Hopfully I will get to see this theatre.

I am currently reading Jane Eyre. Though it starts out extremely slow, it gets more interesting as the main character, Jane, continues her journey. Currently she is a governess to a little French girl.

I just finished reading "Hamlet." I don't really like reading plays, just watching them, but I did enjoy "Hamlet" more than I thought I would. I liked how Hamlet feined madness to try to revenge his father's death, but the way he let his love for Ophilia sink to the back of his mind, I did not like at all.

I am also reading "Desecration" by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. It is book 8 in a series titled the "Left Behind Series." A group of believers are trying to fight against the antichrist. They're faith is challenged in multiple ways, and they set out on tough journeys that they have to be very careful to complete for the sake of all humanity.

I am reading Rubicon by Tom Holland for the 2nd time. It's a historical narrative. And amazingly, it isn't boring. I am also reading Up From Slavery by Booker T. Washington, about his formative days and education.

So envious that you read Pillars of the Earth. Very jealous. :P

I'm currently in the middle of about seven books. I have the unfortunate habit of getting to the middle of one book and then starting a new book. But the one I am focusing most of my attention to is "Halo" about three angels that come to earth. It is a very interesting love story.

As of right now I'm reading A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley and it starts off slowly but it gets much more interesting. I'm not sure how some people would feel about this book, but it is definetly my type of book!

Well...at the moment I am buried deep into homework and college stuff...but over the summer I did finish the second book to the Outlander series and it is absolutely amazing. I have semi-started Jane Eyre but not past the first three pages yet.

At the moment I am in the middle of chapter 41 in the AP history text book and the third Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novel, Life, the Universe, and Everything. I just started Catch 22 and am about 20 pages in. For drama class we're reading Hamlet, so I'm invested inthat story as well. I read different things according to my mood. At least, I do this until I slip into a self-induced mental breakdown.

The books that I am reading are Neverwhere, and Worse Than Dead a Sookie Stackhouse novel. I too am a big fan of traveling to other places that are not my own. I enjoy a good andventure, and at this moment I am loving Neverwhere because of the mystery and the places that they go. I was very upset that I did not have Neverwhere to read this weekend. I, sadly, left it in the hall when we had a beta meeting and was lonely with no adventures all weekend.

The Sookie Stackhouse novels are also good mysteries that bring in the supernatural. A serise has been made on HBO based on the novel, but the show and the novels are not much a like at all except in names of characters. The author of these novels is actually from Little Rock Arkansas which I thought was pretty amazing. She is doing well in life I assume.

I'm reading 'Neverwhere' and 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'. 'Neverwhere' is one of my favorite books so far because it's crazy and jumps around enough to make sense but still keep the reader guessing. 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' is interesting but hasn't really grabbed my attention completely yet.

I am reading That Summer by Sarah Dessen. I just started the book, but so far it is pretty good. It is about a girl named Haven who is fifteen years old. Haven doesn't think she is pretty because she is almost six feet tall. She remembers one of her sister's past boyfriends and she begins to fall for him, just like her sister did.

I am reading Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. So far I really like it. The book is easier than I was expecting and the writing flows very well. The other night I sat down to just read a few pages incase I had to write something about it in class, but I ended up reading five chapters.

I just finished a book called Story of A Girl by: Sara Zarr it was a really awesome book probably by far the best book I've read. It was about a girl that had sex when she was thirteen with an eighteen year old and her dad caught her and everyone at school called her a slut and just really bad names. She stopped talking to Tommmy when that happened well a couple of years later she got a job at a pizza place and come to find out Tommy worked there. There was a lot of conflict with them in the beginning but a lot of things eventually smoothed out. If you wanna know if they get together or not you'll have to read the book.

Well currently I am reading Beowulf. I am not that far into the poem yet, but pretty easy to read and the pictures included every other page really give me a sense of how life was back in that Scandanavian era. Thus far it is quite good.

I am currently reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and it is a very good read. Taking place in the Underside of London, Richard is thrown into an unknown world after he chooses to help a bloody girl on the sidewalk. I am curious to see what happens as he ventures throughout this odd world. Altough it has some explicit material, it is an enjoyable book.

Well, you see, at the moment I'm really not reading anything to be honest. I've read my fair share of college applications and scholarship information, along with colton's menu. But rest assured, I am going to start reading actual books soon.

I am currently Beowulf and Grendel, the two stories go together, so I get two different views.

I am currently reading "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman. Halfway through the book, I recognized some similarities in strangeness of another book, "Coraline", I had read many years before. That is one of my favorite books, and I finally realized Gaiman was the author of that book also! Probably one of the reasons I am enjoying "Neverwhere" so much. The story takes place in London where a man finds a bloody girl on the sidewalk. His choice to help her turns his world upside down hurdling him into a world where the unbelievable becomes reality. I love the oddity of the book and the many twists and turns it offers, and I can't wait to finish it!

A few days ago, I started reading Dear John. I am not a fan of reading, so even though I'm in AP English, I am still trying to get into reading. I have seen Dear John and I enjoyed the movie, so I decided that I would try to get into the book and see what it was like. Right now, I am learning about John and his father and I like the book so far.

I am currently reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I am having some trouble understanding the meaning, but the deeper I get into it the more clear the meaning gets. I am also having trouble getting into the book but the more I read them more I begin to enjoy the book. I am not gonna lie, I do not enjoy reading one bit, but it is kinda nice to find something that is interesting to read every once in a while.

I must admit that I don't really read a lot, but I am actually in the middle of a great book right now. I'm reading "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman. In this book, a man named Richard makes the lifechanging decision to help a girl on the sidewalk. This book has many unexpected flips and turns that make the book fun, and also keep the reader interested.

I am in the middle of too many books at the moment. I can't seem to find one that will absorb my attention. I am reading A Long Way Gone, Speak, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Alice in Wonderland, and I'm sure there are a few that I'm forgetting. I enjoy Alice in Wonderland...only when it is read out loud can the puns can be fully apprectiated.
